Kleinfontein
Wellington, South Africa
Kleinfontein was purchased by Tim and Caroline Holdcroft in 1995. Caroline was born in Kenya, where with her family she was involved in exclusive safaris and lodges within the Kenyan tourism industry. Tim, an engineer by profession, left England in 1965 to live 'the African adventure'. They have lived in various countries in Africa for the past 30 years before settling at Kleinfontein.
The thatched farm house was built around 1830 by the descendents of the French Huguenots and was extended at the turn of the century. Tim and Caroline have painstakingly restored the original Cape Dutch house with poplar beams and ceilings made from reeds harvested on the farm.
Kleinfontein is well placed for you to indulge in the scenic splendour and the wine and gourmet delights to be found on the wine routes of Wellington, Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch.
Kleinfontein is a working farm cultivating vines, guavas, olives and has an organic vegetable garden irrigated by water from the crystal clear spring which gives the farm it's name "Small Spring". Caroline's indigenous bird friendly garden was opened recently for the Wellington Garden Festival and overseas visitors.
The farm also produces small volumes of top quality wine with all grapes benefitting from personal attention and being hand picked at the peak of ripeness. Tim's first wine came on to the market in 2004 and was a 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon which has proved to be very successful.
