G.G. Wines is a dedicated family affair with a passion for the fruit of the vine, catering for the consumer and providing professional service to the client. Husband and wife team, Ernst and Gwenda Gouws, assisted by their winemaker daughter, Ezanne are the soul and drive behind this wine company. Both their families have been part of the Cape Winelands for three centuries.
Ernst and Gwenda established their premier brand, Ernst & Co, in 2004, to produce and sell wine both locally and internationally. Gwenda Gouws established the Imbizo and Timbili labels in 2000, primarily for the export markets of Belgium and Germany.
The combination of a professional company and passionate family involvement for generations is part of the Cape's wine culture and enhances the image of the product.
Education and 30 years experience in the South African and international wine industry, facilitate the Gouws family wine concern to focus on their core business of offering consumers high quality wines at realistic prices.
The grapes utilized for the production of wines for the three labels are secured and sourced contractually by Ernst from the Stellenbosch and other selected areas and are processed at the Koelenhof Winery on the R304 in Stellenbosch.
Ernst Gouws
Ernst Gouws studied winemaking at Weinbau Schule in Weinsberg, Germany, and gained international experience in winemaking in Epernay, a Champagne region and St Emilion in France before making his creative and innovative mark in the Cape Winelands.
Ernst helped with the renovation of Saxenburg Wine Estate's new winery in 1984 and was key in establishing new vineyards for Anglo Alpha (Pty) Ltd. He was the consultant who was in charge of the building of Rhebokskloof Estate's new winery and establishing of the wine farm. Ernst also bought 80 hectares of barren land in the Muldersvlei area of Stellenbosch, and established what is now Hoopenburg Wines.
