Stark-Conde Wines is a family-run winery making hand-crafted wines using tried-and-true traditional methods. The farm is owned by Jose Condé and his father-in-law, Hans Schroder, the owner of Neil Ellis Wines. Their total production is less than 5000 cases, making them one of South Africa's few true boutique wineries.
The Stark-Conde Three Pines range consists of a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Syrah from high-elevation slopes. The name Three Pines is a reference to the lookout spot at the top of the farm, from which the highest vineyards are visible. The Three Pines range come in individually numbered bottles as their production is particularly limited.
The Stark-Conde Stellenbosch range consists of a Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah made with carefully selected vineyard blocks on our property.
All Stark-Conde wines are made with similar, exacting, traditional techniques: hand-sorting, open-top fermentations, hand punchdowns and manual basket pressing.
Stark-Conde wines are made from grapes which come from their own Oude Nektar farm vineyards in the Jonkershoek Valley in Stellenbosch. In addition to being viticulturally ideal, the vineyards are also visually spectacular! Vineyard elevation ranges from between 200 to 500 metres above sea level.
The soils at Stark-Conde are decomposed granite over clay with a range of textures from light gravel to quite stoney.
The Jonkershoek Valley is a small ward within Stellenbosch and shows unique characteristics.
