Boland Kelder
Paarl, South Africa
Boland Cellar situated in the picturesque Paarl Valley, a mere 40 minutes from Cape Town and right in the heart of the Cape Winelands.
Over six decades of vineyard management in the Paarl Region allows our viticulturists to isolate five different climatic zones. The range of wines stamps authority on those zones, allowing us to produce varietal wines with distinct regional expression, while utilizing the best of every zone.
Boland Cellar Five Climates Range
Although our standard range of wine is offered in greater-than-niche-market volumes, we do not subscribe to the idea of “branded commodity wines” which is sometimes based on crude geography (the thoughtless blending of whatever is available and then claiming the end result to be superior).
We prefer to think of our wines as regional expressions of wine with fundamental quality. Subscribing to the broader definition of terroir, we include the human steward of the grapes as a crucial component (adding passion) of achieving a true expression of regionality. Working in a region with five different climatic zones, we view blending as one of the most important steps in making fine wine with a distinctive character.
Boland Sixty 40 Blended range
Unashamedly open and fruit driven, little or no oak is used during fermentation and the wine is finished without further oak maturation.
The art of ‘assemblage’ is not a winemaking add-on, it is a vital conjoint element – at Boland Cellar we define it as a science.
Boland Private Cellar Range
Boland Private Cellar is a limited-volume range of wines produced in partnership with private producers, allowing us access to some of the best privately owned vineyards in the Cape. The wines are expressions of terroir, rather than region or style. By working closely with these dedicated producers and utilizing the production economies of scale offered by Boland Vineyards International, we have crafted “estate-like” wines of individuality at an affordable price. Each small parcel of grapes is vinified separately and appropriately, exactly as it would have been on a small estate.
Boland No 1 Reserve Range
The best wines that we produce, simply said, but extremely difficult to achieve. Select whichever varietal you wish and it is unlikely that you will have ever tasted better. Double GOLDS abound for this range at any and every venue we care to show them. It took us more than sixty years to identify the single vineyards that produce the grapes we need, to vinify these truly magnificent single vineyard examples of Cape varietal wines.
Quality wines are made by the skilful selection of the best grapes from the different areas by the viticulturist. By using natural yeast, a truly South African style of wine is created through expressing the unique natural flavours of the different terroirs, rather then to change it.
Single Vineyards wines are made by die dedicated hands of the winemakers and the Cellar Master. The secret to success lies in the meticulous vineyard selection of the best quality grapes, produced in five different viticultural areas.
Boland Kelder has proved itself to be South Africa’s top producer of a full range of wines that can boast the highest quality and with the trophies to back the statement.

Graduated from Stellenbosch University,(B.Sc Agric) and assisted with several harvests in Vredendal, KWV, Distillers before joining Boland Kelder in 1998 as Viticulturist.
Jurie has been part of the Boland Kelder team for the last 10 years and recently (2008) promoted to Production and Cellar Master.
Passionate about his brand and winemaking Jurie believes you can taste the Boland in our wines because it comes from expert grape growers who have a high level of expertise and follow a tradition that’s deeply ingrained.
Our winemakers are very focused on having the palate provide the basic character of the wine, rather than doing something to change this character.
